Account Management

Overview

This guide covers account management functions including profile updates, password changes, and password reset procedures.

Accessing Account Settings

To access your account settings:

  1. Log in to your UptimeHunt account
  2. Click the user menu in the navigation bar (displays your Gravatar or initials)
  3. Select "Settings" from the dropdown menu

Profile Information

Viewing Your Profile

The Profile tab displays your current account information:

  • Email Address: Your account email
  • First Name: Your first name
  • Last Name: Your last name
  • Account Avatar: Gravatar image associated with your email

Updating Profile Information

To update your profile:

  1. Navigate to Settings
  2. Ensure the "Profile" tab is selected
  3. Modify the following fields as needed:
    • First Name
    • Last Name
    • Email Address (if changing email)
  4. Click "Save Changes" to apply updates

Email Address Changes

Changing your email address updates your login credentials. Use the new email address for subsequent logins.

Profile Picture

UptimeHunt uses Gravatar for profile pictures. To update your profile picture:

  1. Visit gravatar.com
  2. Create or update your Gravatar account using your UptimeHunt email address
  3. Upload your desired profile picture
  4. Changes will appear automatically in UptimeHunt

Password Management

Changing Your Password

To change your current password:

  1. Navigate to Settings
  2. Select the "Security" tab
  3. Complete the password change form:
    • Current Password: Enter your existing password
    • New Password: Enter your desired new password
    • Confirm New Password: Re-enter the new password for verification
  4. Click "Change Password" to apply the change

Password requirements:

  • Minimum 8 characters
  • Combination of character types recommended
  • Must differ from current password

Password Security

Changing your password does not invalidate existing sessions. For maximum security, log out from all devices after changing your password.

Password Reset

If you've forgotten your password:

Step 1: Request Password Reset

  1. Navigate to the login page
  2. Click "Forgot Password?" link
  3. Enter your registered email address
  4. Click "Send Reset Link"

Step 2: Check Your Email

You will receive an email containing:

  • Password reset link
  • Link expiration information
  • Security instructions

Email Delivery

Password reset emails are typically delivered within minutes. Check your spam folder if you don't receive the email.

Step 3: Reset Your Password

  1. Click the password reset link in the email
  2. Enter your new password
  3. Confirm your new password
  4. Click "Reset Password"

Step 4: Log In

After resetting your password:

  1. Return to the login page
  2. Enter your email address
  3. Enter your new password
  4. Click "Log In"

Password Reset Security

Password reset links:

  • Expire after a set period (typically 1 hour)
  • Can only be used once
  • Become invalid after password change
  • Are unique to each reset request

Account Security

Best Practices

Maintain account security by following these recommendations:

Password Management

  • Use unique passwords not shared with other services
  • Change passwords periodically
  • Use password managers for secure storage
  • Enable two-factor authentication when available (planned feature)

Session Security

  • Log out when using shared computers
  • Monitor active sessions regularly
  • Use secure, encrypted connections (HTTPS)
  • Avoid saving passwords in browsers on shared devices

Email Security

  • Protect your email account with a strong password
  • Enable two-factor authentication on your email
  • Monitor for unauthorized access attempts
  • Keep recovery options up to date

Monitoring Account Activity

Regularly review your account activity:

  • Check services list for unauthorized additions
  • Review project changes
  • Monitor API usage if applicable
  • Report suspicious activity immediately

Gravatar Integration

UptimeHunt integrates with Gravatar for profile pictures.

What is Gravatar?

Gravatar (Globally Recognized Avatar) is a service providing profile pictures across websites using your email address as the identifier.

Setting Up Gravatar

  1. Visit gravatar.com
  2. Create an account using your UptimeHunt email
  3. Upload and configure your profile picture
  4. Select an appropriate rating
  5. Changes automatically sync to UptimeHunt

Gravatar Not Displaying?

If your Gravatar doesn't appear:

  • Verify the email address matches between services
  • Ensure your Gravatar is set to public
  • Clear browser cache
  • Wait a few minutes for propagation

Account Deletion

Account deletion is not currently available through the user interface. To delete your account:

  1. Contact support
  2. Provide account verification
  3. Confirm deletion request
  4. Acknowledge data removal consequences

Permanent Action

Account deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed. All services, projects, and historical data will be permanently removed.

Troubleshooting

Cannot Update Profile

If profile updates fail:

  • Verify all required fields are completed
  • Check email format is valid
  • Ensure the new email isn't already registered
  • Try logging out and back in

Password Change Fails

Common password change issues:

Issue Solution
"Current password is incorrect" Verify you're entering the correct current password
"Passwords do not match" Ensure new password and confirmation match exactly
"Password does not meet requirements" Check password meets minimum requirements

Password Reset Email Not Received

If you don't receive the reset email:

  1. Check spam/junk folders
  2. Verify you entered the correct email address
  3. Wait a few minutes for delivery
  4. Request a new reset link if needed
  5. Contact support if issues persist
